From the article:

Whether it???s intentional or not, a lot of things end up cluttering the garage over time so having a few tricks up your sleeve and learning a few tips regarding garage organization would definitely come in handy. It???s difficult to keep track of everything you store in there and it???s even more difficult to find the thing you need when there???s no organization, no system to save you time and space. You???re not the only one who has this problem but you can be the first of your friends who finds a solution.

Wall storage.
It???s much better to store things on the walls than to waste floor space. So get all your stuff sorted out and come up with a system that best suits your garage.

Go magnetic.
Another very useful item can be a magnetic tool holder. It???s similar to a magnetic knife holder used in the kitchen and it???s easy to install and to use.

Pegboards.
Pegboards can be quite useful in home offices but they can be just as practical in the garage. Hang all your tools and utensils on a board, save space and keep them all organized and easy to grab whenever needed.

Screwdriver rack.
How do you store your screwdrivers? Are they all thrown in a box ad you have dig for the one you need? You could use a better system. Try this idea: a screwdriver storage shelf which also doubles as a coat rack. The other rack is practical too as it lets you identify the items at a glance.

From the article:

There is never any room in the kitchen for everything that you need to store. Really, no matter how big your kitchen is or how many cabinets you may have, you are going to face storage issues from time to time.

Whether you need more cabinet space for canned food, need bigger drawers for utensils or you just have coupons and other things that need to have a place of their own, you will need additional storage at some point.

We have a great list of DIY kitchen organization and storage ideas for you that will make your life a little easier. You can choose the one that you need or use several of them. Imagine a kitchen that is perfectly organized with everything in its place and a place for everything. Many of these projects are so easy that you can do several in a weekend and have your kitchen perfectly clutter-free in no time.

Store Cutting Boards in Your Cabinets with a Magazine Rack
Magazine racks give you great storage options. You can install them right inside your cabinet doors to hold things like cutting boards, lids and anything semi-flat. Just screw them directly into the inside of cabinet doors and you have a great storage solution that is inexpensive and very handy.

DIY Drawer Dividers
Instead of throwing out old cereal boxes, use them to keep your desk drawers organized. You just cut them to whatever size you need and then you can cover them with wrapping paper to make them look like store-bought organizers. This is a great idea for the bathroom cabinet as well.

Kitchen Cabinet Organization
You can pick up all sorts of cabinet organizers to help keep your kitchen in order. If you have a lot of pots and pans, glass casserole dishes or other baking essentials, these will help you to keep them stacked neatly so that they are easier to find when you need them. The organizers are relatively cheap and they are very easy to install.

Kitchen Cabinet Organizers
Revamp the inside of your kitchen cabinets with tiered shelves. This gives you additional storage space and helps you to keep everything organized so that you can find it easily. If you have a lot of top space in your cabinets, you can utilize that space by adding a tiered shelf and give yourself a bit more room to keep dishes, canned foods and other essentials organized.

Pot Lid Organizer
An old towel rack makes a great organizer for pot lids. You just have to attach the towel rack to the wall wherever you want to store lids and then slip them in. Make sure that you choose a rack that does not stick out too far from the wall or lids may fall through.

From the article:

The laundry room is often the most unorganized room in the house. There is after all, so much stuff that has to be piled in there and so many products that you have to store. If your laundry room looks like a disaster area, we have a great collection of 30 ways to organize it.

Not only can you get everything organized, we???ve got great ways to add storage, too. So, if you want to store additional items away and out of sight, you can take advantage of these great storage options.

Your laundry room will be clean and well-organized and your life a bit easier. You know you need to organize that room so why not start with these great DIYs and products that we???ve found to help make that organization just a bit easier.

Some of them can be made with things that you may have lying around the house, which makes them effective and cheap. Let???s get started on organizing the laundry room so that you can save a bit of time when it comes to getting the laundry done and give yourself a little peace of mind while you???re at it.

Rolling Laundry Basket Dresser
This rolling laundry basket dresser is a great way to organize the laundry room and save yourself a bit of time when doing laundry. You can presort your clothes in the baskets and it can easily be rolled from room to room for picking up the family???s laundry. It???s easy to build and perfectly holds three laundry baskets so you have space for three different loads. Plus, when you???re not rolling it around, the top could be used for additional storage. If you need someplace to organize those baskets full of dirty laundry, this is a great choice.

Washer and Dryer Pedestals
If you don???t yet have pedestals under your washer and dryer, now is the time to get them. And, you don???t have to pay a small fortune for them, either. You can actually build them yourself. Pedestals are great for storing all sorts of things in the laundry room. You can either build them with drawers or make it a bite easier on yourself and just leave them open. You can keep baskets of laundry or baskets of cleaning and laundry supplies in the cubbies. These are so easy to make and utilize space that you normally wouldn???t think of which is key in keeping things organized.

Slide Out Storage Tower
This slide out tower is actually made for the kitchen but we think it would be a wonderful addition to the laundry room. If you have a bit of space between the washer and dryer, you can just slide this right in there. It???s wide enough to hold most cleaning supplies and you can even keep your laundry detergent, stain fighters and dryer sheets on it, too. Instead of piling those things sky high on a shelf, stick them away in that little bit of wasted space between your laundry room appliances. It has casters so it will slide in and out easily and just think of the organizing that you can do with it.

Sock Saver
You know those mismatched socks that you have laying on the dryer? The ones that you just can never find the mates to? Instead of losing socks and having to forever look for the proper matches, use these neat little sock savers and never lose those socks again. All you need are mesh lingerie bags, enough so that everyone in the family can have one. When they take off their socks, just have them place them into their own little bag. When the bags are full, you can wash them and the best part is, you can wash the bag as well. You just throw the entire bag into the washer and the socks stay inside. You???ll never spend hours hunting down socks again and you can get rid of that mismatched sock pile in the laundry room.

From the article:

Don???t break out the knee pads and scrub brushes just yet. Whether your floor is laminate or tile, linoleum or cork, we???ve got the simplest and safest ways to keep them looking spotless and new.

Cleaning Laminate Flooring
Your laminate may resemble hardwood planks or natural-stone tile, but you still need to care for it as a laminate. The good news: Very few things will harm a laminate floor, says Bill Dearing, president of the North American Laminate Flooring Association. After all, the planks are constructed in sun- and light-resistant layers to maintain a like-new appearance for years. That said, it???s important to keep water from getting underneath the planks. Dearing recommends dry mopping or vacuuming the floor, making sure the machine is on tile mode (as opposed to carpet) so the beater bar is raised. Spot-clean with a slightly damp mop (or a wet Swiffer, since they aren???t sopping wet) when necessary. Dearing???s last bit of advice: Never polish a laminate floor. If the finish of a plank looks damaged, it???s best to replace it.

Cleaning a Hardwood Floor
Hardwood floors typically have one of two finishes: polyurethane or wax. Not sure what you???re standing on? Rub your finger across the surface, says Meg Roberts, president of Molly Maid. If a smudge appears, the floor is likely waxed.

Sealed wood floors typically have a urethane, polyurethane, or polyacrylic coating. This protects them from stains and water damage, says Roberts. To clean, simply mix ?? cup of mild or pH-neutral soap (try Seventh Generation All-Purpose Natural Cleaner Concentrate) with water in a bucket. (Steer clear of acidic vinegar solutions, which can dull wood floors over time.) Then damp-mop (be sure the mop is wrung out very well), using a dry microfiber cloth to wipe up any excess moisture. Clean high-traffic areas like the kitchen once a week; for less-trafficked areas, mop once a month.

If you have waxed wood floors, you???re off the hook???sort of. Since this type of flooring can be damaged by even small amounts of water, keep damp mops away from this surface, and instead sweep, dust mop or vacuum regularly.

Cleaning a Vinyl Floor
For weekly cleaning, use Reichert???s spritz-and-dry mop technique to keep tile floors looking fresh: Gently mix 1/4 cup vinegar in a 16-ounce spray bottle with 1 drop of dish soap and warm water. Spray the floor one section at a time and wipe with a damp microfiber mop as you go. For periodic deep cleans, she likes to use a steam cleaner to clean both tile and grout???the steam does the work of removing stains (and bacteria!), so you don???t feel like you got an extra workout right there in your kitchen.

Buying a Home? Learn What Areas the Homeowner’s Inspection Doesn’t Look at Here!

Buying a home is one of the biggest expenses that anyone will ever make. In order to help you make the best decision for you we found this article on one areas the inspection doesn’t look at. We hope it helps you purchase a home you’ll love for years to come!

From the article:

Hiring a home inspector is a crucial part of buying or selling a home. An inspector will assess the home for potential problems and identify any issues that may affect the continuation or negotiation of a sale in progress. But it???s also important to understand that inspectors don???t cover all of the bases in a home. In fact, it???s possible that an inspector may miss a significant issue. In many cases, you???ll need to hire a specialist to inspect certain areas, and you should always look closely at everything yourself. Here???s the skinny on the ???home inspection checklist??? and what is and isn???t covered:

Inspectors don???t cover plumbing.
Most home inspectors don???t have the qualifications to look at plumbing and can only call out visible issues like a leak or outdated plumbing. This means they probably won???t look at your:

– Wall or undersink plumbing pipes
– Swimming pools
– Septic tanks

There are exceptions in which an inspector will have the qualifications to look at pools and septic systems, but this varies depending on the inspector and where you live. You shouldn???t rely on your inspector for this in any case. If you see serious cracks or dents in the swimming pool, you should probably hire a swimming pool pro to do an inspection. If you think the septic tank is making weird noises, have someone take a closer look.

HVAC systems aren???t covered in the inspection either.
Home inspectors may or may not touch your heating or air conditioning system, depending on the climate conditions at that time of your inspection. They don???t want to cause damage by putting too much pressure on the system. In fact, in your home inspection report, there may be a liability disclaimer relieving your inspector of any responsibility for your HVAC system. Depending on the conditions at the time of purchase or sale, you may need to have it separately inspected.

Roof leaks are the #1 missed problem.
Home inspectors don???t take huge risks, nor do all climb up onto the roof of a home to check for leaks. Inspectors will use binoculars to look at the roof from the ground level or from a higher window to identify any potential damages. This helps them see missing or torn shingles or nail pops and potential holes, but there may be more to the story. If you live in an area that???s had a lot of intense weather, you may want to hire a roof inspector to ensure that the roof is hole-free and durable.

Looking for Summer Outdoor Activities for Your Kids? Get Ideas Here!

In the summer kids get bored easily and they have the ability to lose knowledge they gained in the previous school year. In order to help you out with both problems we found this article on fun outdoor activities. We hope it helps!

From the article:

Summer break may be only about 10 weeks long, but during that time kids can forget a lot of what they spent the previous nine months working hard to learn. Recent studies have shown that kids can lose up to two months’ worth of reading and math skills over summer vacation — and that means teachers have to spend precious classroom time each fall bringing them up to speed. “Keeping children’s brains challenged throughout the summer is crucial,” says Craig Bach, vice president of education for Goddard Systems, Inc., franchisor of The Goddard School (goddardschool.com), a network of preschools focused on learning through play.

That makes sense, of course, but what parent wants spend time drilling her kids on math facts when there’s outdoor fun to be had? Well, good news: Summer vacation and learning aren’t mutually exclusive.

“Summer is a great time to awaken kids to the love of learning and help them discover that learning can be joyful — even if they think that school itself is not,” says Heather Staker, the author of Blended: Using Disruptive Innovation to Improve Schools. “Some education reformers would do away with summer vacation. I take the opposite view: Summer is an important time for informal learning and discovery.”

The following activities are all expert-approved ways to stop the summer slide while having fun outdoors. Each one supports continued learning by creating opportunities for children to be creative, think critically to solve problems, count, read, or categorize or group things and ideas. Try one (or more!) today.

Try something new. “Talk to your children about a new experience they would like to try,” Bach suggests, such as sleeping outside in a tent or fort you make together, trying a new slide at the park, or learning how to do a somersault or cartwheel. “Summer is a wonderful opportunity for children to gain confidence and grow as individuals by trying new things outside of their comfort zones.”

Plan or join a community event planting trees, bushes, flowers, or a garden. “Use this opportunity to study and discuss all the benefits that plants provide for us,” says Staker. “Plan walks around areas in the city to identify the areas that are most in need of these benefits.”

Enrich outdoor adventures with a driving question. “A driving question is an overarching question that will initiate and focus discovery and learning,” Staker says. Examples of good driving questions include “How can we use a camera to persuade citizens to protect the wildlife around our city?” or “What is best route for a walking tour of our town?” Take the learning a step further by encouraging your kids to participate in developing the question, Staker adds. “Or ask kids to imagine they’re in charge of creating a campaign to get kids off devices and into the sunshine. Ask, ‘What parks and local outdoor attractions should we feature in the brochure?'”

Interested in What a Skinny Skyscraper in New York Will Offer? Find Out Here!

Living in New York isn’t for everyone. If you are one of the people that do or would like to call New York home then this article is for you. One of the major downsides of New York is the lack of green parks and places to breath. One designer has come up with a way to incorporate a park into the skyscraper. We hope you enjoy learning about this skyscraper as much as we did!

From the article:

Living next to a park is a treat in New York’s concrete jungle. But how about living under one?

A new superslim residential tower proposed for Midtown Manhattan will have built-in parks and even an outdoor cinema, among other common areas that its designers say will make it like a vertical West Village street.

Slated for 12 East 37th Street, the as-yet-unnamed tower will reach 700 feet???about half the height of New York’s tallest residential high-rise, the Rafael Vi??oly-designed 432 Park Avenue which is set to open later this year. Residents at the 37th Street building will have access to five clusters of common amenities, which will also include a fitness room, an infinity pool and a private yoga studio. “You’re never really four or five floors away from a common space,” says Robert Goodwin, the New York design director at Perkins+Will, the architectural firm responsible for the project.

He was helped by New York City zoning rules, which specify that skinny buildings with small footprints have virtually unlimited height restrictions. By going taller, he could slot 33-foot-high park pockets without reducing the number of apartments the tower could hold. The 65 apartments will range from 400-square-foot studios to 1,800-square-foot floor-throughs while the building itself will be roughly 50 feet wide and 54 feet deep.

Touch open cabinets
Forget cabinet hardware.

Stickle said he’s been installing cabinets in high-end kitchens that open automatically with just a touch.

The minimalistic look has also led to a more integrated kitchen, according to Jason Maltas, president of luxury home builder Gordon Gibson Construction in California, with hidden storage spaces for everything.

“Think of those things like ladles and spoons that would usually be on the counter top in a vase,” he said. “Instead now, they are integrated in a drawer that pops up next to the range and there’s a space cut into the drawer for every utensil.”

Refrigerated drawers
No more cramming the fridge after a big grocery haul. Refrigerated drawers are being added throughout kitchens to add more chilled storage space.

“They look just like a regular drawer in your kitchen that you pull out,” said Robinson, adding that nearly every kitchen he built in the last year had this feature.

There are so many neat little gizmos and gadgets emerging in the home automation market these days. Technology is moving at a breakneck speed, and each year that passes unveils lots of interesting toys. It won???t be long before things like turning the faucet on and off, adjusting water temperature manually, turning the lights on or off???or even worrying about whether or not you have enough milk in the refrigerator???become a thing of the past. In the future, all of these processes, and more, are going to be automated. Let???s take a sneak peek at some of the new home automation gadgets that are on the market.

Lockitron
With a name like Lockitron it must be cool, right? Of course it takes more than a cool name to make one of these gadgets worth purchasing, but this one looks very worth it. You place the Lockitron over your existing deadbolt, and it connects to your phone. So you can use your phone to lock or unlock the door from anywhere, and you can share the ability to operate the door with friends. Best of all, it fits on the inside of the door, so you don???t need to worry about somebody messing with it. Anytime the door opens, you get a message sent to your phone. Plus this device has Bluetooth; you can simply walk up to the door, and it automatically unlocks.

Nest
The makers of the iPod have created another beautifully designed and functional gift. It???s called Nest, the prototype thermostat of the future. Nest is like a little artificially intelligent robot that learns your living habits in about one week. This little thing is so smart that it can actually feel your presence and know you???re awake. The program is designed in such a way that, after answering a few set-up questions and tweaking, it will perform more or less on its own.
